UV Printing on Phone Cases

Custom phone cases are one of the highest-volume, highest-margin UV printing products there is — a small substrate, a fast print, and enormous demand from individuals, creators, and brands. UV flatbed printing produces vivid, photo-quality images bonded directly to the case, with none of the peeling or fading you get from stickers or heat transfers. Done right, the print looks and wears like part of the case itself.

How Phone Case UV Printing Works

The case is placed in a precision jig — a holder machined or printed to the exact model so the case sits flat, square, and repeatable under the print head. The printer lays down a white ink underbase in the shape of the artwork, then prints full CMYK color on top, curing instantly with UV LED lamps. The white base is essential: it makes the colors read accurately on clear, black, or colored cases instead of being tinted by the case itself.

Because curing is instant, a printed case comes off the bed dry and handle-ready, which is what makes one-off personalization and bulk runs equally practical on the same machine.

Which Phone Cases Print Best

• Hard polycarbonate (PC) cases — the easiest and most consistent to print; rigid surface, excellent adhesion, premium matte or gloss finish
• Hybrid / slim TPU cases — a rigid back with flexible bumper; print well and are very popular
• Soft TPU and silicone cases — printable, but the ink film must stay flexible or it can crack on a bendy case; needs flexible-ink settings and careful adhesion prep

Edge-to-Edge and Wrapped Coverage

Flat UV printing covers the full back of the case crisply, and a contoured jig lets the printer carry the image partway down raised or curved edges for a near edge-to-edge look. True fully-wrapped 3D coverage (image continuing seamlessly around all sides) is generally produced with 3D sublimation rather than flat UV. For the vast majority of custom cases, a full-back UV print with slight edge margins is exactly the product customers expect — and it's sharper and more durable than wrapped alternatives.

Durability and Finishing

A phone case lives in pockets, bags, and hands all day, so durability matters more than on almost any other printed product:

• Cured UV ink is scratch- and smudge-resistant straight off the printer.
• A UV clearcoat or laminate over the print significantly boosts abrasion and fade resistance for daily wear.
• Proper substrate prep — clean surface, correct ink for hard vs. soft cases — is what separates a case that lasts from one that wears at the corners.
