Solid surface looks like plain plastic but it's a fabricated material, and most pieces have already been through a shop before they reach a printer — routed to shape, edge-polished, sometimes thermoformed into a curve for a reception desk or seamed at a joint. Any of that leaves dust, polishing compound, or a glass-smooth sealed finish that ink won't key into reliably. A light scuff and a real solvent wipe, not just a dust-off, is standard prep here in a way it isn't for a lot of rigid substrates.

Because most solid surface is body-colored and opaque rather than clear, it usually skips the white-ink underbase step that clear or tinted acrylic needs for opaque graphics — one less variable than the acrylic version of the same job. What it doesn't skip is heat sensitivity if the piece was recently thermoformed: a curved section needs to be fully cured and stable before it goes under a UV lamp, or the combination of forming stress and lamp heat can introduce a warp that wasn't there during fabrication.
